You Can't Spell Lallie without LA

Let’s go back 4 years ago, I was visiting Los Angeles for the second time with my family attending a Red Hot Chili Pepper’s concert at the Staples Center. As many of you know the Chili Peppers are from LA therefore we knew this would be a special show. When they performed “Californication” and the whole stadium sang in unison, I got chills. I knew right then I wanted to live in LA at some point in my life. This last week has been surreal. Finally, following in my siblings footsteps… I made it to the West Coast.

My first week in LA has been great! Needless to say, I am not missing the Georgia heat and humidity at all. I moved into the Oakwood apartments which have been pretty nice... We even have a fireplace!

The biggest adjustment for me has been driving. Coming from Perry, GA, where the only traffic we have is when the fair is in town, to this jungle has been kinda scary. I have learned to drive defensively, parallel park, Waze everywhere, and to always go to the bathroom before you get in the car.  (haha) Finally, I’m getting use to being honked at all the time.

- I can't figure out how to make this smaller.... oops...

One of my first free days in LA I went and explored Griffith Park with some friends. We had planned to go for a hike but instead ended up going to check out the views from the Griffith Park Observatory. The park is beautiful and huge. I definitely want to go back one day and hike to the Hollywood sign.  Later on, I went to the Grammy Museum in downtown Los Angeles. They were displaying special exhibits for Otis Redding and Bruce Springsteen, which were both awesome. Although, I thought the coolest thing was seeing Michael Jackson’s Thriller jacket. Earlier in the week I went to Santa Monica. Personally, this has been my favorite part of LA. I think it is a nice, beautiful area. I walked around the promenade and the pier absorbing all the scenery. Friday morning I went to Amoeba Music to purchase the new RHCP album “Dark Necessities.” First off I totally recommend giving it a listen; the album is very diverse. Secondly Amoeba is coolest music store I have been in. I definitely will be spending more time and money in there…. (Sorry Dad) Friday night a few of us from the group decided we would hit the town. This was very fun and  I had a great time getting to know people better while exploring the LA scene. Although, I learned that downtown LA is much different from downtown Athens.

I can tell I will learn so much this summer and make many memories. I love exploring different parts of the city and I am excited to see what else I find in LA.

  1. Sounds to me like you have a great start going to LA. I think it's super neat how you came here when you were younger, and that you got chills and new that it was destined to me. I admire how hands on your internship is. It's neat that you are learning both promotion and press. That's pretty darn cool! Your adventures sound fun as well, and I'm glad that you have taken advantage of being outside because it's absolutely beautiful!!
