This past week was spent learning all about File Maker.... My
new enemy…. Honestly, I do not know why Planetary uses this software. I think
it is very confusing. It is meant to be a nice way to stay organized but the
software itself is just very complicated. They have two different versions. One
version only has a few bands and publications in it and the other version has
more bands and publications. However, several of them repeat or are
out-of-date. This might not sound too bad but we are talking about thousands of
different publications and hundreds of bands to go through! Then there are all
these boxes that you can check or put letters in to create certain codes for
what you are imputing. The format is also reverse chronological order so that
the newest is at the top. (I did not realize this the first time I put info in
and then had to go back and edit everything)
Entering information into File Maker is quite tedious since
you have to search both versions to see where to place it, then you have to
figure out which boxes to check, and finally make sure it is in the right
order. It is hard for me to get across how detailed this software is. The gist is
File Maker requires you to remember a lot of small, intricate details. My week
was pretty much spent entering data into that… Basically, I just think there
has to be an easier software to input all of this data. Oh, and the font is
like point .000001!! I’m thinking I will need glasses after this summer at this rate…
Also, I learned about Mail Chimp. This allows you to see who
opened your email and clicked on the link. I thought it was cool that you could
see who did and who did not open your email. This is the info I enter into File
Maker.
Finally, I did get to create some tweets for upcoming shows.
So, go follow @planetarygroup if you want to see some info on our clients and
where they are touring!
